Andrew G. Kellar
Creator/Artist/Wood Craftsman
Born and raised in North Carolina, which back in the day was considered the furniture capital of the United States. I've always had an interest in antiques, the history and stories of each piece. I have always appreciated and enjoy the outdoors and our natural resources, especially during my early years as a Boy Scout. Scouting opened up a new world of camping, backpacking, climbing, rafting and ultimately resulted in earning the Eagle Scout Award, (proud to say there are 7 Eagles in my family - me, 3 brothers and 3 nephews). I graduated from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC keeping me close to the outdoors and mountains.
Reclaimed wood has its own individual characteristics whether from a 100-year-old barn, smoke house, carriage house, furniture carts or other antiques from back in the day. Transforming seasoned wood uncovers unique characteristics of coloration, patterns, grain, feel, and smell. For me, this is an art form with each distinct piece, one of a kind. My wife, Stephanie and I have always loved antiques and years ago I mentioned to her wanting to learn the art of woodworking. Years later, she remembered, and discovered an old barn, smoke and carriage house in western Williamson County, TN and that was when it all began.
Reclaimed means to "retrieve or recover’", both representing a transformation and, as such, there are two (2) meanings to ‘Kellar Reclaimed’:
• The first meaning of course represents working with ‘reclaimed’ wood, furniture, and other materials to create and bring out the beauty in something I and others may enjoy for many years.
• The second meaning is personal for me, and always happy to share my story of both journeys for those interested in hearing more.
I hope to introduce those interested in the process of creating art with techniques learned and continue to learn involving combinations of wood, iron, copper, and other materials. We have limited resources, and we must understand how to repurpose our natural resources to preserve and get others interested in transforming the old into something new for decades to come.
Thank you for taking time to review my passion.
